It is funny how color and artistic voice subtly shifts depending on the moment. In another of my paintings, Lakeshore ONE, I was reflecting on the light and it’s impact on this same scene, you can feel how it touches everything and sort of blows out all the saturation of chroma, likely I was reflecting on midday. In this painting, Lakeshore TWO, you can tell my mind was on the colors before me at the hours earlier or later in the day when everything was vibrant. The subtle variations of the water, the rocks, the trees, the sand. I was marinating in the rich warm hues of the day. This particular piece I painted after a day at the Grand Traverse Lighthouse on the Leelanau Peninsula in Northern Michigan. It is an expression in a different medium of the same view as Lakeshore ONE.
